PRESS RELEASE - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Berlin, July 2nd, 2015 – SAVE THE DATE! The Centre for Investigative Journalism (CIJ) are happy to announce the second Logan Symposium in Berlin at the bcc Berlin Congress Center on 11th and 12th of March 2016. The event takes place with generous support of the Reva and David Logan Foundation and in collaboration with our media partner DIE ZEIT, Germany. Expect some of the biggest names in investigative journalism and hacktivism!
THE EVENT
The WikiLeaks and Snowden revelations made clear that we are all vulnerable, as private citizens, as reporters and editors and as technologists. The disclosures impacted much of what we do and importantly, how we do it. As it is effecting so many, we discovered allies we didn’t know we had.
This fortuitous discovery inspired the Logan Symposium. We have invited leading journalists, hacktivists, legal and security experts as well as artists to Berlin. They are coming, many for the first time, to inform and charge the debate on freedom of the press, the internet, privacy and government accountability. They are bringing new information, the future of file sharing, spying, whistle-blowing, forensics and corporate practices to discuss how journalists, hacktivists and lawyers deal with this changing landscape.
The Logan Symposium is for reporters, activists, researchers, editors, hacktivists, technologists, security professionals, whistle-blowers, students and concerned citizens. If you work in or are simply concerned with human rights, civil liberties, a free press, information security, data management and any part of the media, this is an event not to be missed.
In December 2014, the Centre for Investigative Journalism (CIJ) with the support of the Reva & David Logan Foundation held the first Logan Symposium in London, gathering leading reporters, researchers, hackers and artists. Speakers included Seymour Hersh, Julian Assange, Richard Stallman, Laura Poitras, Sarah Harrison, Charles Lewis, Lowell Bergman, John Pilger, James Bamford, Duncan Campbell, Jacob Appelbaum, Andy Müller-Maguhn, Bernd Fix and many more.
